Whether it’s an adventure across rugged, untamed Namibia or an African safari in wildlife-rich Kenya, the great thing about our escorted tours is their ease. For every Africa holiday, we’ll meticulously plan the itinerary, work out the route and organise any tickets or permits that might be required – and we’ll arrange an expert tour manager to accompany you throughout, so you’ll have somewhere there 24/7 to keep everything running as it should. Each of our Africa tours and safari holidays includes ATOL protection for extra peace of mind.

Wondering when’s a good time to go to Africa? There are different high and low seasons across each region, so it definitely depends where exactly you’re looking to visit. Product manager Phil recommends March for Egypt (warm, but not too hot – a joy for sightseeing), June for Namibia, July for Zimbabwe and Madagascar, and August for witnessing the Great Migration in Kenya. For South Africa, he suggests July-November for the best game viewing conditions.

Deciding where to go on a safari can be tricky – there are plenty of options to consider. Kenya and South Africa are where we offer most of our safaris, but you could also explore lesser-visited spots, like Namibia, Zimbabwe or Madagascar.

When it comes to safaris, size really is everything. That’s why most of our African safari holidays are part of our small groups collection – the number of guests on these tours will never be more than 24. Being part of a small group tour allows for a much more intimate safari experience, plus it creates a real sense of camaraderie between you and your like-minded fellow travellers.

Small group safaris give us a lot more flexibility, too. We can stay in smaller, more characterful lodges, and include experiences that wouldn’t be possible for a large group.

Our tours give you plenty of opportunities to try some of the local dishes and specialities, whether that’s a tasty tagine in Morocco or a traditional braai (barbecue) in South Africa. Product manager Phil recommends stocking up on red bananas in Kenya – creamier and sweeter than their yellow cousins, they’re delicious snacks and perfect for a post-game drive treat.

The majority of our Africa tours are classed as ‘moderate’ pace – there’s likely to be moderate walking at a steady pace, and you might be required to walk further distances, including over mixed terrain and up and down stairs. Safaris usually involve early starts and lots of clambering in and out of 4x4 vehicles, so a reasonable level of fitness is needed. It varies between countries and tours, so it'll depend which of our Africa holiday packages you’ve chosen. On our Kenyan safari holiday, for example, you’ll be in 4WD vehicles for the duration of the trip; on our South Africa tours, you’ll be in coaches most of the time, switching to 4WD vehicles for game drives.
